Winery Visit-Tres Suenos

For my last winery visit of this class, we decided to take a trip to visit Tres Suenos Winery in Luther, Oklahoma. After following old dirt roads, we came across beautiful rows of grapes leading up to the winery. We went inside and met up with Christy who owns the winery. She had purchased the winery about a year ago to use the property as a wedding venue. Her and her husband decided since there were grape vines already on the property, why not give the wine making a try. Christy is glad they made the leap to make the wine, because business is booming!

They had the reds and whites separated out in front of the property. The winery produces 11 different kinds of wines out of 12 different grape species. Christy showed me where they picked the grapes and stored them in a huge cooler until they were ready to go through the de-stemmer. By cooling the grapes, it stops the natural process of fermentation that will occur within the grapes. The grapes would then be de-stemmed which got rid of MOG! (Material Other than Grapes)

The grapes then went into a balloon tank which pressed the juice out of the grapes! The clear grape juice is now ready for the next step!

Now we're ready for fermentation! The juice is put into vats to ferment. For red wines, the skin is left in the juice to give it the color of the red wines! After the fermentation process, some of the wine is stored in oak barrels to age while other wines are then bottled. Christy orders all of their barrels from Arkansas or Oregon and only use American Oak barrels.

We then went into the main building to enjoy a fun and FREE wine tasting with Christy! We started with her sweet wines and worked our way to the drier wines! (My favorite!) Out of the 10 wines we tried, we really enjoyed the Anniversary Red Reserve which is their semi sweet red wine with a light oak flavor. Their Viognier was also very good, which is perfectly in the middle of sweetness and has a citrus aftertaste. I really liked their Merlot which was not as strong as a typical merlot! Reagan really enjoyed their Fiesta Blanca, which was their sweetest wine! It is a moscato varietal wine with an amazing flavor!

Tres Suenos was a really fun day trip to explore the hidden treasures of Oklahoma! The winery was beautiful and Tres Suenos is on to great things with their wines! I suggest you try a bottle from them! Also, invite me over when you do!
